Internet Safety - Natasha and Megan
Internet Safety is a very important matter at Hinchley Wood School, and we have been looking into it. Since Internet Safety day has just passed, we have been researching and reviewing our schools methods to cope with internet trolls and unsafe usage of the internet and social media. So we have interviewed various people including the Head of Hinchley Wood School , Our internet safety lead Mr Jones and students from different years to get their opinion on the matter.
Mr Jones- as lead of internet safety- commented about how “most of the situations he sees is when people post spiteful comments and don’t think about how the targeted people might feel.” and how people often make the “wrong decisions”. The IT department have helped this school greatly when it comes to protecting the students (as seen in the video). They also noted that it’s very easy for people to gain information by the clothes that they wear, the location of the photo or video and also your name. This is why if a child appears on a video or the internet they must have their parent or guardians permission. Some of our classmates said that Social Media is good however they know it is important to know the dangers it can pose. Peer pressure is also a negative because people can make bad choices due to peer pressure. We were told that one of the students was asked by an anonymous person to share photos of herself, but she was aware of the harm this could cause and told her parents. This situation can happen a lot, and it’s wise to tell a guardian so they can sort it out. Our Headteacher, Mr Bartlett, commented about how social media has many good impacts, like how you can talk to your friends online, but also holds bad impacts like how you can access any content you want, like videos from terrorist groups to unkind messages on social media. This is why it is crucial to educate young children on the harm of the internet and social media, and how to stay safe. This is a video about the harm of the internet and how to stay safe.

Can you spot fake news? - LouisThe phrase fake news has been used in many terms. Fake news is a problem within politics and just general news. This type of news, found in social media or fake news websites, has no true facts but is presented as being factually accurate and correct.
Donald Trump used this phrase to target people on social media making him the enemy of many people. People use fake news to make people interested in their news-report. Would you do such a thing? Would you make a news-report about fake news? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/stories-42752668/a-brief-history-of-fake-news |
